No long-term success is possible when brilliant minds are excluded on the basis of their diversity. Our diversity is our strength, and it enriches us.
The lab, co-founded by Drs. Bogdan Beirowski and Elisabetta Babetto, represents the journey of an immigrant couple navigating diverse cultures across Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, and now the United States of America. As first-generation scholars who have encountered linguistic, cultural, systemic, and microaggression hurdles firsthand, we are deeply committed to fostering inclusivity and equity within the scientific community and beyond. Drawing from our diverse experiences, we prioritize the integration of varied perspectives, recognizing the richness they bring to our collective understanding. We actively promote constructive dialogue, inquisitive perspectives, and creativity, and embrace differing viewpoints, recognizing the invaluable contributions they make to scientific progress. Throughout our own educational and training paths, we have come to understand that an open mind is not only essential for societal cohesion but also fundamental to advancing science. In pursuit of these ideals, we are dedicated to cultivating a laboratory environment that rejects discrimination, racism and exclusion, and instead champions inclusivity and freedom of expression. We uphold the principle that every member of our lab will be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of religious beliefs, skin color, or gender identity. Our aim is to create a space where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives towards our shared scientific goals.
